My Journey: Rosamund Pike
Rosamund Pike’s joined the NYT as a teenager in the mid-1990s and went on to play Juliet in the company’s Romeo and Juliet. It was while she was playing Juliet that she was spotted by an agent, Dallas Smith, who helped her begin a professional career. She has called that partnership the most genuine and long-lasting relationship of her working life. Rather than turning professional straight away, she went on to study English at Wadham College, Oxford. Nearly three decades after her NYT Juliet, the NYT now counts her among its most celebrated alumni, including as the winner of Best Actress at the 2026 Olivier Awards.

Rosamund Mary Ellen Pike was born in Hammersmith, London, in January 1979, the only child of opera singers Julian Pike and Caroline Friend. The family travelled around Europe with her parents’ work until she was seven. She learned piano and cello, and later won a scholarship to Badminton School in Bristol.
She was turned down by several drama schools. Her early television work included the BBC dramas Wives and Daughters (1999) and Love in a Cold Climate (2001).
Her film debut was as Bond girl Miranda Frost in Die Another Day (2002), which won her the Empire Award for Best Newcomer. That makes her one of two NYT alumni in this series with a Bond connection, alongside Daniel Craig. David Fincher later cast her in Gone Girl because he wanted someone not widely known whom he could not easily read. The film took over $356 million worldwide and earned her an Academy Award nomination.
Her other credits include Jack Reacher (2012), Hostiles (2017) and the series State of the Union (2019). On stage she played the blonde in Hitchcock Blonde at the Royal Court in 2003, and in 2025 she ended a 15-year absence from the stage with Inter Alia at the National Theatre.
